The April 2014 index run presents Etaregge Brooklyn and Midwolder Goldmar as the highest daughter-tested newcomers in red-and-white and black-and-white. For dairy producers who wish to breed for a naturally polled herd, world-class bulls become available. And the highest daughter-tested bulls, Atlantic and Camion, again strengthen their top positions.
CRV’s bulls again prove that they stand at the basis of a healthy and efficient herd. Atlantic and Camion perform excellently as leaders in the rankings for black-and-white and red-and-white and their NVI scores have even increased. Besides this success CRV wishes to offer a wide range of top bulls and this index run shows that this strategy is on the right track.
Increasing efficiency with the highest daughter-tested newcomer
Increasing efficiency is one of the most important concerns of modern dairy farmers. The CRV breeding programme has a lot to offer to them. First of all, CRV presents Etaregge Brooklyn (Mr. Burns x Kian, 247 NVI). Brooklyn is the highest newcomer in the ranking for red-and-white. He will boost the efficiency of the herd tremendously (Better Life Efficiency +8%). He transmits a very good milk production (+1324 kg of milk), a high protein inheritance (+0.08%) and no less than +103 kg of fat and protein.
In addition to a high production and efficiency, Brooklyn also passes on a superb type (113 total score), with fine udders (109), strong legs (110) and well-developed frames (111). Altogether Brooklyn is a complete sire that is interesting for both red-and-white and black-and-white herds!
Top bull for health
For increasing the health of the herd, CRV has a fine selection of bulls available. In that segment, Midwolder Goldmar (Goldwyn x O-Man, 277 NVI) is a real transmitter of milk solids, being the highest newcomer in the ranking of daughter-tested black-and-white bulls. Goldmar inherits +0.17% fat and +0.08% protein and combines this with a superb type with a total score of 112, with 111 frame, 111 dairy strength, 109 udder and 108 legs. His daughters show a great balance between dairy type and dairy strength, and their body condition score continues to be very good during lactation. Goldmar scores 108 for udder health, and with 107 for birth ease, he is also a great calving ease bull. With +9% for Better Life Health and a longevity of +465 days, Goldmar is at the basis of a healthy herd with a trouble-free production.
InSire Top Bulls for efficient and healthy milk production
Currently the highest available black-and-white InSire Top Bull is Delta Cupido (Wonder x Paramount, +316 NVI). With 115 points, he has the highest type score in the top 100 of genomic bulls. Cupido has no O-man in his pedigree and descends from a family where the cows achieve high lifetime productions. Not surprisingly, he has an extremely high breeding value for longevity (+710 days) and a great score for health (+5%).
Texel Beauty Debutant (Dakker x Superstition, +289 NVI) is currently the highest red-and-white InSire Top Bull available. He combines an excellent milk production inheritance (+1518 kg) with good health traits (108 calving ease, 103 fertility, 104 udder health, 103 claw health and +597 days longevity). With his high breeding value for milk production, he provides +91 kg of fat and protein and +10% for Better Life Efficiency. Debutant’s cow family has shown world-class type for many generations. He himself has a great total score of 111 points, with a superb udder score (113).
World-class for polled and efficiency
CRV’s red-and-white InSire Top Bulls show that breeding for naturally polled cows produces bulls with great capacity to improve the efficiency of the herd as well. De Vrendt Nova PP (Foxtrot P x Lawn Boy P, 222 NVI) is a homozygous polled InSire Top Bull, meaning that 100% of his offspring will be polled. Nova boosts the milk production (+1488 kg of milk) of the herd. Moreover, this milk is produced very efficiently (+8%). Nova passes on healthy udders (103) and healthy claws (106). In addition, with +549 days, he has a very high score for longevity.
Delta Michel P (Foxtrot P x Fidelity, 253 NVI) is a heterozygous polled InSire Top Bull providing high milk solids (+0.10% fat and +0.22% protein). It is obvious where these high solids come from: both Michel P’s dam, granddam and great granddam produced milk with more than 4.80% fat and 3.60% protein. In combination with an excellent milk production (+706 kg), Michel P passes on +83 kg of fat and protein. He transmits healthy udders (105) and shows great scores for efficiency (+7%) and longevity (+493 days).
Carlo and Vanstein: strong in dual purpose
Carlo (Mathijs x Parole, +130 NVI) is a very popular MRIJ (dual purpose) bull. In this run, his NVI goes up by 22 points. His daughters produce a lot of milk (+841 kg of milk) and do so very efficiently (+7%). Moreover, they have good legs (106) with healthy claws (107). These traits will certainly increase Carlo’s popularity fore pure breeding as well as in the crossbreeding circuit.
Based on his 913 Dutch daughters, in this index run, Fleckvieh bull Vanstein (Randy x Malf, +108 NVI) takes first place in the ranking. His daughters are fertile (108) and have very healthy claws (109) and good legs (109). Moreover, Vanstein passes on a positive milk production (+106 kg) and great efficiency (+5%).
